TIGRAN HAMASYAN Le Forum Vauréal Tigran Hamasyan presents The Bird of a Thousand Voices, a conceptual double album blending jazz, Armenian folk, and rock, adapted into a transmedia stage production. A piano virtuoso with a powerful groove, Hamasyan effortlessly fuses intense jazz improvisation and progressive rock with the rich folk music of his native Armenia. Born in 1987 in Gyumri, he began playing piano at age three, performed at festivals and competitions from age eleven, and won the Montreux Jazz Festival piano competition in 2003. His debut album World Passion followed in 2004, and the next year he won the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition. His catalog includes New Era, Red Hail, A Fable (Victoires de la Musique winner), Shadow Theater, and Luys i Luso, recorded with the Yerevan State Chamber Choir around sacred Armenian music. His Nonesuch debut Mockroot (2015) won an Echo Jazz Award; later releases include An Ancient Observer, the For Gyumri EP, Revisiting the Film, and StandArt, alongside the 2021 Deutscher Jazzpreis for international piano/keyboards. His new concept album The Bird of a Thousand Voices, released in 2024 on naïve, draws on an ancient Armenian tale of a hero who journeys into invisible worlds to find a mythical bird capable of restoring harmony. The stage adaptation — blending immersive lighting, shadow theater, programmed digital voices, and live music — premiered at the Holland Festival in June 2024.
