VARDAVAR — ARMENIA'S SUMMER WATER FESTIVAL Vardavar is one of Armenia's most joyful national holidays, celebrated 14 weeks after Easter. On this day, it is customary — and expected — for people of all ages to drench each other with water in the streets. The tradition dates back thousands of years to pre-Christian Armenia, when Vardavar was celebrated in honor of Astghik, the goddess of love, beauty, and water.
