About This Event
WEAVING CULTURE — Anna Boghiguian Solo Exhibition 📍 National Gallery of Armenia (entrance from Arami Street) 🗓 Opening: Friday, May 15, 2026 · 7:00 PM 🖼 On view: May 15 – August 15, 2026 We are pleased to invite you to the opening of "Weaving Culture," the first solo exhibition of internationally-renowned Armenian-Egyptian-Canadian artist Anna Boghiguian at the National Gallery of Armenia. The exhibition follows the "Weaving Culture" residency program conceived by the curatorial practice AHA Collective, which welcomed Anna Boghiguian to Armenia for a one-month residency in July 2025. During her residency, the artist visited carpet workshops, met with displaced women weavers from Karabagh, and traveled through southern Armenia to the border city of Meghri, creating a rich body of work on paper. Over the course of nine months, a paper-to-carpet translation process took place. Six displaced weavers, together with local dyers, translated the diasporic artist's vision into a rich woven language, using local wool and more than two hundred dyes. Anna Boghiguian's "Weaving Culture" emerges as a contemporary epic in which the carpet becomes the narrative voice, speaking from both Armenia's pastoral and mythological past and its present geopolitical condition. The exhibition features original drawings, 37 handmade carpets and tapestries, photographic and video documentation, and other materials from the residency. A bilingual Armenian–English catalogue published by AHA Collective will launch alongside the exhibition, accompanied by a series of public programs. Curator: Nairi Khatchadourian Supported by the Delegation of the European Union in Armenia within the framework of the "Rapid Response Mechanism." Weaving workshops: Artsakh Carpet · Carpet Home Anahit · Woolway Studios Poster visual: Anna Boghiguian, "Meghri, the Earth Rises" (2025) Design & Lettering: Sargis Antonian
