Armenian restaurants, bakery cafes and coffee shops across Burbank, from long-standing kabob houses to newer rooms on Magnolia and San Fernando.
Burbank sits directly south of Glendale and shares its Armenian community, but the restaurant scene here is smaller, more spread out and noticeably different in character. Rather than one dense commercial strip, the listings cluster in three places: downtown Burbank around San Fernando Boulevard, the Magnolia Park stretch along West Magnolia and Burbank boulevards, and North Glenoaks Boulevard where it runs toward the Glendale line.
Adana on North San Fernando Boulevard is the long-running name here, cooking the food of the Adana region. Tonir Cafe further up San Fernando bakes in a clay tonir. Tun Lahmajo on North Glenoaks is a lahmajo specialist, and Zankou Chicken keeps a Burbank location on North San Fernando for rotisserie and garlic sauce. Rafo's Cafe near North Victory runs an Armenian, Mediterranean and Persian menu with kebabs and koobideh.
This is the real difference from Glendale. A third of the Armenian-owned food businesses in Burbank are breakfast rooms or cafes rather than dinner restaurants. Bread & Breakfast and Corner Cottage near Victory, BB Cafe on West Burbank and Eat'N Park Diner on West Victory cover mornings. On the coffee side, Brothers Coffee LA on South Glenoaks, Sotta on West Alameda and The Ugly Mug Coffee House on West Burbank are all Armenian owned. If you are after an Armenian breakfast or a place to sit with a laptop, Burbank is the better bet of the two cities.
Most of these are a short drive from the Burbank Media District and the studios, and the downtown Burbank cluster is walkable from the San Fernando Boulevard shops. Parking is generally easier than in central Glendale.
