His family's Armenian roots trace back to immigrants who settled in Argentina — part of the Armenian diaspora in Latin America that emerged following the 1915 Genocide. Nalbandian grew up playing tennis in Argentina and turned professional in 2000, quickly establishing himself as one of the most gifted players on the ATP Tour.
Nalbandian reached a career-high ranking of World No. 3 in 2006 and won 11 ATP singles titles during his career.
