Armenian churches, schools and businesses across Kuwait.
Kuwait's Armenian community is small but long established. It peaked near 12,000 in the mid 1980s, fell sharply after 1990, and numbers a few thousand today, centred on Kuwait City, Salwa and Salmiya. The first arrivals were engineers and contractors from Iran and craftsmen from Aleppo, and the community has worked in light industry, auto repair, plumbing and electrical trades ever since. Sts. Vartanantz Church, the Prelacy of Kuwait and the Arabian Gulf and the National Armenian School, founded in 1960, remain its anchors.
