The Ohannessian Armenian Weekly School sits beside the Saint Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Church in the Churches Area of Al Yarmouk, Sharjah. Founded around 1980, it teaches between 150 and 180 pupils aged 3 to 16, covering Armenian language, Armenian history, religion, culture, songs and dance. The school serves Armenian families in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, a community largely made up of professionals who came from Lebanon, Syria, Armenia and elsewhere. Weekend schooling of this kind is the main route by which their children learn to read and write Armenian. Enquiries go through the Sharjah Armenian community on +971 6 566 0320 or armcom@emirates.net.ae.
