The Nareg Choir is the choral group of Hamazkayin's Vahan Navasartian chapter in Latakia. It offers choral singing and choir training, and takes its name from Grigor Narekatsi, the medieval poet and mystic whose Book of Lamentations is one of the central works of Armenian literature. Singing together in Armenian keeps both language and liturgical music in use in a community of modest size. The choir serves Armenian residents of Latakia who want to sing rather than only listen.
