St Catherine’s Armenian Apostolic Church stands on Nevsky Prospekt in central St Petersburg, designed by Yuri Felten and consecrated on 18 February 1780. It was closed in the late 1920s and returned to the Armenian community in August 1992, then reconsecrated on 12 July 2000 by Patriarch Alexy II and Catholicos Karekin II. It is the centre of Armenian life in the city, and an Armenian food window in the passage beside it sells lavash, matnakash and baklava.
