Surb Sarkis, the Church of St Sergius, stands in the old town of Feodosia and was built in 1330, making it one of the oldest Armenian churches in Crimea. It was rebuilt after a fire in 1888. Khachkars are set into its walls and it housed a major Armenian scriptorium from the fourteenth to the sixteenth centuries, whose manuscripts are now held in Paris, Jerusalem and the Matenadaran. The painter Ivan Aivazovsky was baptised and married here and is buried in the churchyard. Open 9am to 5pm daily, free.
