Surb Sarkis Cathedral in the Adler district is the principal Armenian Apostolic church of Sochi and the spiritual centre of the Armenian community across Krasnodar Krai, home to one of the densest Armenian populations in Russia. Building began in 1993 and the first service was held on 10 May 1998. The brothers Armen and Ambartsum Mkhitaryan founded it in memory of their father Sargis. Khachkars stand in the grounds, including a 1915 genocide memorial and one brought from Echmiadzin, and a Sunday school teaches Armenian language and history. Open 9am to 6pm.
