Shiraz is the Armenian folk dance ensemble of the Hamazkayin Montevideo chapter, formed in 1973 and named after the poet Hovhannes Shiraz. It offers dance instruction and performs the Armenian folk repertoire in Uruguay. For a community of modest size, an ensemble running for this many years is a real achievement and one of the clearest Armenian presences in Montevideo's cultural life. It serves young people and adults of the local Armenian community. Enquiries go to montevideo@hamazkayin.com or through the chapter on Instagram.
